Calvary Chapel Clarinda
How we came about
|
In response to an invitation to come to Clarinda and begin a study, Calvary Chapel of Omaha began to pray concerning God's will in this matter. Over the next few months it became clear that in fact this was the will of God and in July of 2000 the first Calvary Chapel bible study was held in a rented facility in Clarinda. That first Thursday night there were nearly 25 people.
Pastor Steve Johnson of Omaha continued to make the trip weekly for the next 2 years and over this period of time the study moved locations 2 different times. In April of 2002, after praying and seeking the will of God, the decision was made to turn the study over to Greg Young and his wife Amy of Clarinda.
The Lord led us to remain a Thursday night study for the next year and then in June of 2003 God spoke to us concerning His desire for us to go on and become a church.
On September 21, 2003 we conducted our first Sunday morning worship service in Clarinda, Iowa. God had so blessed us that we already owned our own building before our first Sunday morning service at the location we are now in at 1500 S 14th St. in Clarinda.
The building that God has given us, had been for the most of its existence a bar, which many find ironic because several of us were in that bar at some point in our lives in a manner that was not glorifying to God.....BUT God..... in His infinite love and grace had a plan for this building and us, and He saved us instead of punishing us and He turned this building into a place of worship. So for many of us, this building is a reminder of God's unfailing love and His willingness to forgive.
1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the spirit of our God.
God has been faithful every step of the way, guiding us, leading us, protecting us, and providing for us. It is our desire to continue simply teaching the word of God simply, depending on the Lord to build the church.
"But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4:23-24
